Writer of Quiet Thrillers with Lasting Echoes

Michael writes with quiet intensity, exploring the haunted intersections of memory, war, and redemption. His stories walk the line between thriller and literary fiction—lean, atmospheric, and unafraid of silence. In every line, he chases the truth behind what men and women carry home from places they never meant to go.

About Me

I Turn Experiences Into Stories.

Some writers chase plot. I chase consequence.

My name is Michael Blankenship…Mike if you’re inclined. I’m a 13-year Navy veteran and a 30-time Ironman finisher—and those two paths taught me the same thing: endurance isn’t about grit alone. It’s about showing up, again and again, even when the reasons grow quiet.

I write fiction shaped by experience—stories forged in the echo of conflict, the weight of memory, and the silence that often follows both. My debut novel, Ghost of Bosnia, blends the pulse of a military thriller with the soul of literary fiction. It’s about what happens after the mission ends, when the ghosts come home with you.

I’m drawn to characters who carry more than they show. Men and women shaped by what they’ve survived. Truths that aren’t easily spoken. I write for readers who don’t mind slowing down for a sentence that cuts deep.

When I’m not writing, you’ll find me swimming, cycling, or weightlifting—training for the next race or turning over a scene in my head. I also read widely and listen often—because good stories come from paying attention.

If you’re here, I hope you’re looking for more than just action. I write stories that stay with you—long after the last chapter ends.

My Vision

To tell honest, character-driven stories that explore the lasting cost of conflict—internal and external—and the resilience it takes to live with both.

My Mission

To create literary thrillers that blur the line between memory and action, inviting readers to reflect deeply while staying gripped by the story.

My Goal

To build a body of work that resonates with veterans, civilians, and anyone who’s ever wrestled with what it means to endure—and to heal.

The Power of Miles and Water: How Movement Inspires My Stories

Some stories do not find me while I sit at my desk. They visit me in the water, where the sound is muffled and the only rhythm is the rhythm of my breathing. It is here, away from the blinding cursor and the expectant page, where the stories speak. I…

Building the Perfect Cast for Ghost of Bosnia

Building the Perfect Cast for Ghost of Bosnia

When I set out to write *Ghost of Bosnia*, I knew I wasn’t crafting a typical military thriller. This character-driven novel delves into the complex emotions of PTSD, manipulation, and the cost of truth. Meet Matt Briggs, the haunted pilot whose silence is a scar, and Jerry "Vandal" Carter, the…

In The Runner, a ten-mile flag-bearing journey through Pensacola explores the weight of memory, loss, and the quiet resilience of those still carrying the war long after it ends. This evocative reflection captures the rhythm of recovery and…
